Jenkins wins PBR event

March 31 2008 2:31 PM

ALBUQUERQUE — Texico’s L.J. Jenkins earned his first PBR Built Ford Tough Series event of the 2008 season, scoring a 90 in the championship round Sunday to win the Ty Murray Invitational at Tingley Coliseum.

Jenkins scored 358 points on four bulls in the three-day event.

Built Ford Tough Series leader Guilherme Marchi finished second.

“I’ve never done very well here (in Albuquerque),” said Jenkins. “It’s a great feeling to win in my home state. Winning the 2006 PBR World Finals doesn’t even compare to how I feel right now. It’s awesome to win an event with all my family and friends here to support me.”

The win was his third career victory. Jenkins pocketed $44,872 for his weekend’s performance, moving him from 11th to seventh in the season standings. Jenkins has earned more than $750,000 in his three seasons on the PBR tour.

Jenkins held a  lead of 3.75 points over Marchi heading into the championship round.

“The bulls were great this weekend,” said Jenkins. “I drew great and got to pick first in both draft rounds. Both bulls I choose (Savage Shaker and Bonafide) are bulls that I had ridden in the past and knew I could score at least 90 points on.”

Jenkins was bucked off all three bulls he attempted to ride in Portland, Ore., and Tacoma, Wash., two weeks ago.
