Family enjoys closeness of Cannon community
Introducing …
The Wolfe Family.
Lt. Col. Scott Wolfe is commander of the 73rd Special Operations Squadron.
Scott and his wife, Tade, have been married 13 years, and have two children: Owen, 8, and Will, 6.
The family has been stationed at Cannon Air Force Base since November 2007. Scott has been in the Air Force for 18 years.
The Wolfes like to watch college football and have learned to adapt their family hobbies to what the area they live in has to offer. In New Mexico, they enjoy riding all-terrain vehicles.
Scott, how many times over the span of your career have you been deployed? Upwards of 10 times.
What has been your favorite assignment? They have all been unique so I wouldn’t say we have just one favorite. While in Florida we were closer to family, which is always nice. We were also stationed at Kadena Air Base in Japan before we had children. Tade was very good at getting us on the road, so we took a lot of trips out in the far east.
What do you like about Clovis? I think that the people here have been very receptive to the military. I like the close proximity of everything. I also like that the traffic is not bad. On other assignments you have to deal with traffic, and oddly enough, it does weigh on a person. Being here at Cannon kind of correlates to being in an overseas assignment. Everyone lives close together and centrally located. It makes for good gatherings and good get-togethers.
What would you like civilians to understand about military life? I would like civilians to have a greater appreciation for the sacrifices that are made in a military family. Not just by the military member itself because it is a profession that is chosen on a voluntary basis. But the spouses and children make lots of sacrifices that go unseen while supporting that military member. Some of the people here are working 14-hour days and are away from their families a lot. Then there are deployments.
Tade, what is the most difficult part about being a military wife? I really enjoy being a military spouse. Deployments and being away from each other is the hardest part.
Do you have any advice to new spouses in the military? Enjoy it. Take advantage of the situation. Even if you are stationed at a place like Cannon, there is still a lot of things to do. Get out and explore the area. Also, it’s very important to get involved with the wives network.
What is something that you have learned by being a military spouse that you hope to pass on to your children? Patriotism.
Will, what is your favorite part about your dad being in the military? I like him taking me to the squadron to see the planes.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a lifeguard and a policeman as a hobby.
Owen, what is your favorite part about your dad being in the military? I like how he is the commander.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A paleontologist.
