Place: Magoffin Home State Historic Site
Location: 1120 Magoffin Avenue in El Paso, Texas, is 317 miles or 5 hours and 34 minutes from the base.
What is it? Magoffin Home is a museum which explores the stories of a multicultural family who influenced the development of the southwest borderlands.
Magoffin family members actively participated in U.S. expansion and settlement, trade on the Santa Fe-Chihuahua Trail, Civil War turmoil, military service and U.S.-Mexico relations.
What can people see here? The house is part of the Magoffin Historical District and is one of the oldest surviving adobe structures in the area and is a reflection of a prominent early El Paso family. There are numerous artifacts, textiles, photographs, art and documents on display.
What age is this facility best suited for? All ages.
What is the price of admission? Adults $5, Children ages 6-18, students with ID, adult tour groups $3. Children 5 and under are free. All active duty branches are free until after Labor Day.
What are the hours of operation? Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What special events are going on there? Summer crafts, “Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice” July 8; “Building with Dirt” July 16; and a walking tour of Magoffin Historical district on July 17.
