Some towns in Mexico still off limits

Some towns in Mexico remain off limits to service members and other Cannon personnel are strongly encouraged to refrain from visiting these locations as well.

A memorandum signed Dec. 22 by Col. Stephen Clark, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, stated that the towns of Cuidad Acuna, Juarez, Piedras Negras, Nuevo Laredo and Tijuana, Mexico are off limits because current conditions and heightened violence in these cities present an unacceptable risk to the health, safety, welfare and morale of military personnel.

Military personnel traveling to any destination within Mexico other than these cities must have their unit commander’ s permission, provide emergency contact information and routes of travel and must complete Level 1 of antiterrorism training before travel.

This restriction will be re-evaluated based on updated assessments.
