Kite Karnival set for Saturday
Kites of all shapes, sizes and colors will take to the skies near Cannon this weekend for the 5th Annual Kite Karnival.
To celebrate April as National Kite Month, the Kite Karnival will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday off-base at Doc Stewart Park.
Kite enthusiasts of all ages will have a chance to fly kites, create and build kites and watch kites during the day. A special kite-making booth will be open from 10 a.m. to noon.
This year’s event will feature an attempt at 1 p.m. Saturday by kite-flying adults 18 years of age and older to break the Guinness World Record for “Most Kites Flown Simultaneously.” Free kites will be available for everyone, organizers said.
Members of the American Kite Association from New Mexico and surrounding states attend the annual event, Cannon officials said.
Kite Karnival activities will include game booths, kite candy drops, static kite displays, miniature ponies and buckboard wagon rides, kids’ train rides, bouncy castles, kite vendors and food concession stands.
There is no admission charge for the event.
Doc Stewart Park is west of Clovis along U.S. Highway 60/84. Take the first right turn immediately after the Cannon Air Force Base overpass exit.
